Machine learning in understanding big data for healthcare solutions

Machine learning is changing the way multi-dimensional big data is used for providing healthcare solutions in this digital era. Current scenario shows a transformation in technology and an increasing quantity of data available in terms of genomics data, patient’s data, electronic medical data. Crunching and digesting all this data requires technological innovations where machine learning approaches play a pivotal role. Our team at GBRC is working on screening of genomic and expression data for specific molecular signatures that can be used as diagnostic and therapeutic entities using Machine learning approach.

Development of database, software and pipelines for omics data

Omics technologies have brought about a tremendous change in the way data is analysed. The sheer enormity and heterogeneity of omics data has taken us to a point where it is becoming difficult to interpret it. Our team is working on exploring such multi-dimensional data to address questions in basic and translational areas of Cancer, leptospirosis, multi-drug resistance and environmental genomics. In these interdisciplinary studies we aim to understand the systems biology of these diseases and provide diagnostic and therapeutic solutions for societal welfare. We have contributed in these areas in several ways. LeptoDB being one of the first step in this direction

Understanding molecular entities of regulatome via systems biology

Today, systems-oriented research is the mainstream approach and has been successfully applied in drug discovery and biotechnology. The current challenge is to understand how each of the molecular entities act in a single second in the entire regulatome of a body. Besides this it is also crucial to understand the regulatory networks associated with these entities from single cells to communities of multiple cells. GBRC team is strongly working on the aspects gene-protein regulatory networks combining computational network theory and bioinformatics approaches for providing solutions for deadly diseases like leptospirosis, Cancer and anti-microbial resistance.

Big data mining and analytics of extreme environment for biocatalysts discovery

Big data analytics is one of the major application of healthcare and environment sector. The wealth of information and volume of complex data available for environment puts forth an opportunity of exploiting data to get more information. The team is currently working towards mining this data from extreme environment for biocatalysts and industrially important molecules.
