Plant tissue culture includes the techniques of in-vitro growing of an organelle, cell, tissue, organ on a defined medium under controlled conditions in an aseptic environment. Among these techniques, micro propagation is the most important technique to resolve the deficiency of the qualitative planting materials as larger scale to the farmers of the state. GBRC focuses on development of tissue culture protocol for agriculturally and commercially important plants which may leads to technology transfer.

Gujarat Biotechnology Research Centre established Plant Tissue Culture laboratory for the development of tissue culture protocol of agricultural, medicinal, and commercially important plants of the state. These plants includes fruiting crops such as Banana, Date palm, Pomegranate and Guava; medicinal important endangered species such as Guggul and forestry timber species such as Teak.
